Breed Report: Large Breed Dogs & Air Travel

Breed Report

Air travel with large breed dogs requires advanced planning, as most cannot fly in-cabin and must travel via air cargo. This method involves specific safety and compliance requirements, including the use of an IATA-compliant crate.

Some breeds-especially brachycephalic dogs like Boxers-are embargoed by airlines, and certain countries restrict or ban the import of large or "guard" breeds such as Rottweilers and Cane Corsos.

A common mistake is choosing a crate based on weight or breed, rather than the dog's actual measurements. This can result in denied boarding, injury, or IATA non-compliance. Always measure your dog accurately and confirm airline and destination regulations before booking travel.
